Three tests of daily living skills for retarded adolescents were developed and validated: making purchases, seeking jobs, and using banks. These three tests were adapted from three of the nine sections of the Social and Prevocational Information Battery (SPIB), a test made up mostly of true-false items. Each of the three tests were developed in three different formats: true-false (like the SPIB), three-choice multiple-choice, and two-choice multiple-choice. Two other instruments were also developed to cover the same content: a behavior rating questionnaire for the parents for their evaluation of the adolescents, and an applied performance criterion instrument consisting largely of actual or real-life types of activities and materials. Test statistics for the preliminary form of the test were obtained for 323 students. Revised forms were developed and the tests were administered to a new sample together with the behavior rating form and the applied performance test.
