Developing and Implementing a Computerized SDI Service for Educational Administrators.
Sanders, Jean E.
This practicum report describes the development and implementation of an SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information) system for administrators. The purpose of the SDI system was to provide current and economical retrieval and dissemination of the published educational literature in order to encourage educational improvements. Practicum procedures are presented, followed by an examination of evaluative data related to each of six objectives. The report describes the implementation during the one-year period, and presents the results of information utilization in the school districts. The practicum affirmed that supplying relevant information to persons needing it can be accomplished effectively by using the computer terminal. The SDI system succeeded both in bringing knowledge of the ERIC data base to the attention of the administrators, and in making available significant literature in the field of education; the results of user evaluations indicated positive reactions to the service. Pertinent conclusions from related research investigations that were used in developing the practicum strategy are reported, and forms and instruments are appended, as well as a glossary of terms and a bibliography of related reports.
