Special Education Competencies for Teachers Project: Speech-Language Pathologists' Competency Assessment.
Stulac, Josef F., II; Olive, John
An assessment instrument to evaluate the competency of speech language pathologists, developed by the Special Education Competencies for Teachers Project, is presented. The instrument was developed by a committee of concerned educators, and a survey of Georgia special education directors, speech language pathologists, and a 10% sampling of principals was undertaken to determine which of the competencies should be minimally required of beginning speech language pathologists. A total of 385 usable returns were calculated and results indicated that for each of the seven task areas (diagnosis, prescription, presentation, monitoring, feedback, program administration, and professional ethics) a lead therapist was the most desired person to provide ratings. The assessment instrument, a 112 item survey, and data on the results of the survey are appended. (PHR)
