Now that women have been admitted to the higher echelons of management, they can begin to work together to remove those barriers which still affect their full participation in administration. Strategies for overcoming these barriers must focus on the lack of opportunity as well as on the establishment of programs specifically designed to place women into positions of leadership. The most comprehensive strategy for correcting the underrepresentation of women in educational administration is the implementation of Executive Order 11246 which requires affirmative action plans. Institutions must also organize strategies related to staff training, employment procedures, and recruitment to make it possible for women to develop to their fullest potentials and to make use of such potential in solving social problems. Individuals and organizations can develop strategies such as networking, retraining, peer-support groups, and mentor relationships. (Author)
