One in a series of bibliographies related to rural library service, this document lists over 800 entries dealing with the specific concerns of rural, county, and small community libraries. Listed alphabetically by author under subject headings, the entries cover the period from 1930 to 1975 and are drawn from a variety of sources including educational journals, regional and national library journals, foreign and international library journals, books, conference proceedings, government publications, and theses and dissertations. The 16 subject headings relate to the role of the rural public library, characteristics of rural communities and populations, and the role of libraries with respect to adult education. Specific topics include library extension and outreach, finance, professional training for rural librarians, rural reading interests, rural school libraries, rural communications, and rural development.
