Relationships Among Cognitive Measures in Learning Disabled and Non-Learning Disabled Children.

The differences in performance on a variety of cognitive measures were studied in 67 learning disabled (LD) and normal elementary school children. Younger and older Ss were administered tests of conceptual sorting, central and incidental learning, and selective attention. Teacher ratings of classroom hyperactive behavior were also examined. LD Ss performed significantly worse than normal Ss on the two attention/memory tasks, but not on the conceptual sorting task. Performance on the attention/memory tasks was consistently interrelated for the normal Ss, but much less consistently for the LD Ss. Hyperactivity appeared to be related to poorer performance on the cognitive measures. (Author/DLS)
