Information supplied in this bulletin stems from a review of the process the Creswell (Oregon) School District used in adopting its own energy conservation measures and in successfully applying for a construction grant for energy-efficient buildings. A number of questions that school districts may have in attempting to establish energy conservation programs are answered. Discussed are ways of finding out what assistance is available from state and federal government agencies, how a district can become eligible for National Energy Conservation funds, steps for initiating a districtwide energy conservation program, and what is involved in a preliminary energy audit. Basic tools of financial analysis used in the economic evaluation of energy conservation measures are explained. The appendix includes a glossary of terms commonly encountered in reading energy materials. Other topics discussed are inservice training materials and the role of a district energy coordinator as part of the school district's staff. The bulletin also details the incorporation of energy conservation material into a school curriculum. (Author/MLF)
