The Correctional Education Project: A Descriptive Analytical Overview.
Ambury, George G.
Both a description and an evaluation of the Correctional Education Project conducted by the Faculty of Education, Queen's University, in cooperation with the Correctional Service of Canada are provided. Components of the program described include the following: (1) the negotiation stage and early months of the contract; (2) functional aspects such as project management and curriculum content, design and evaluation; (3) problem areas; and (4) staffing patterns. The use of path analysis to identify the major variables influencing the progress of the project is presented in terms of teacher images, prisoner attitudes, variant platforms, institutional needs, conflicting conceptions of curriculum, and concepts of human systems and management styles. A bibliography and appendices stating the aims of correctional education and the steps used in program design are also provided. (Author/HLM)
