Team Approach for Occupational and Useful Career Education--Humanized.
Stone, Naomi; Spence, Patricia
Developed for teachers seeking an alternative classroom approach that develops students' life skills, this manual introduces, describes, and facilitates the implementation of TOUCH (Team Approach for Occupational and Useful Career Education--Humanized). Parts 1 and 2 introduce and define TOUCH as an instructional process which uses subject area content to provide students with educational experience in development of self-concept, career guidance, and community living. ("Useful" is expanded to its proper scope: home economics education.) Part 3 provides example methods which the teacher can adopt or adapt to implement the TOUCH process. A flow chart sequence, teacher checklist, and detailed instructions, suggestions, and alternatives are provided to guide the teacher through the three stages: preliminary planning, class assembles, and continuous evaluation. Development of an access system to resources and a student management plan is emphasized. Part 4 discusses the role of the teacher as a facilitator. Part 5 presents literature and research support for the TOUCH process. (An extensive appendix contains major teaching tools, including various attitude, needs, and self-concept assessment instruments. A guide for the use of the Home Economics Access System, TOUCH-DEX, is also provided.) (YLB)
