A Viewer's Guide for Connections: Technology and Change.
Munshi, Kiki Skagen; Scheiber, Jane L.
This volume contains the Viewer's Guide to accompany the ten-part television series component of a multimedia instructional program on relationships among science, technology, and society. The major objective of the program is to make college level course material available to the general public through cooperation of newspapers, public television, and 300 participating colleges and universities. Specific objectives of the Viewer's Guide are to highlight important points and themes of the television series and to tie those themes to the newspaper articles and essays in the program Reader. The document is presented in ten sections--one to accompany each television program. Topics discussed include technological infrastructures; the relationship of technology to knowledge, culture, and work; economic determinism; resources and population; major inventions; science and technology; engineering accomplishments; war as an impetus to technology; and creative thinking. For each section, information is presented on a summary of the program, background, themes, readings, and discussion questions. The document concludes with a time chart representing technological developments and other significant events in world history from 10,000 B.C. to 1970. (DB)
