The Status and Prospects of Library/Learning Resource Centers at Michigan Community Colleges.
Platte, James P., Ed.
A survey of 29 Michigan community and junior college learning resource centers was conducted in the spring of 1979 to examine the status of resources and services, their scope and use, and the staffing and budgets necessary to support these resources and services during the 1977-78 academic year. The survey report compares the data from this survey with those from a 1971 study where possible. The report begins by providing background on the Michigan community colleges. Chapter II presents information pertaining to the types of services provided by libraries/learning resource centers, e.g., library, audio-visual, programmed learning, and special services, and information on weeks of service per year and days and hours open per week. Chapter III focuses on print, periodical, and audio-visual collections and their use. Chapter IV examines library/learning resource personnel with regard to staff size and allocation of staff time to various library activities, and to audio-visual services and programmed learning. Chapter V considers total budget allocations and operating expenditures. The data collected in the survey are presented in tables in 23 appendices and the survey instrument is included. (Author/AYC)
