Educating Students in Least Restrictive Environments: Instructional Preparation for Teachers. Series II: Planning Instruction Management for Exceptional Children in Regular Classes.
Kleinhammer, P. Jeannie, Ed.
Intended for preservice regular education teachers, the modules in Series II are intended to address the continuous instructional planning which teachers must carry out to meet the needs of exceptional children in regular classrooms. It is explained in a series overview that many of the enabling activities require contact with children in the classroom and therefore the modules should be used in method classes and/or student teaching. An initial module is designed to familiarize the preservice teacher with several different options for providing services to exceptional children. Module 2 focuses on referral systems used by area school districts, while Module 3 provides activities and resources for developing individualized educational programs which comply with P.L. 94-142 (the Education for All Handicapped Children Act). Module 4 gives information on task analysis and application of that process to instructional situations. A fifth module addresses the identification and modification of instructional arrangements to maximize student growth based on observations of a student's strengths and weaknesses. Module 6 focuses on individualizing instructional materials and media, while Module 7 addresses the organizing and planning for individual and group instruction. The final two modules provide information on planning classroom schedules and classroom layouts. A prospectus, student objectives, and enabling activities are listed for each module. Sample forms and handouts are given. (SBH)
