Illinois State Office of Education, Springfield. Div. of Adult Vocational and Technical Education.
Designed by classroom teachers to provide for the infusion of career education into existing curriculum, this notebook contains student worksheets in career-oriented areas which can be used with varying learning styles and ability groups. These worksheets for grades 7 and 8 are arranged under four major areas: self-awareness, language arts, career exploration, and job skills. Answer sheets are located at the back of each section. Self-awareness activities include self-descriptions, self-evaluation, determination of personal abilities and interests, and future planning. Some topics in language skill areas are synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, punctuation, the eight parts of speech, verbals, sentence structure, and diagramming sentences. Worksheets in the area of career exploration consider interviewing, career clusters, skills and career possibilities, careers in law enforcement, health, construction, job matching, job cards, and fringe benefits. Job skills activities emphasize use of resources (newspapers and telephone books), letter writing, job application, resumes, and interviews. Various types of exercises are included: evaluation forms, charts, sentence completion, theme writing, multiple choice, crossword puzzles, and word search puzzles. (YLB)
