Data on age distributions for students enrolled in higher education institutions in Missouri for the 1978-79 school year are presented. The majority of students were within the traditional age group for college attendance (21 years of age or younger). This was especially true for the full-time undergraduate student. A substantial number of students were enrolled part-time, and the majority of these students were between 25 and 34 years of age and were enrolled in the state-supported two-year institutions, the independent universities, and the independent two-year institutions. It is suggested that institutional policy-makers will need to be more flexible as consideration is given to the older student. Considerations of scheduling, course offerings, and other student services will require attention. Institutions located in urban areas will perhaps reflect an increase in part-time enrollments since the location of these institutions will enable persons to continue current employment and also to cut college costs by living at home. The extent of part-time enrollments during the next decade will perhaps have the greatest impact on higher education enrollments. (SW)
