The Four-Year College: Education and Work Alternatives. Spring Workshop, April, 1979.
Terry, Arthur F., Ed.
Three speeches and nine clinic summaries from a workshop on the four-year college and career education are presented. In Daniel Behring's speech, "Career Education: Creative Program Opportunities for the College Administrator," the importance of career education on the college campus is discussed. Behring offers four suggestions for administrators, such as placing career education within the context of the existing goals of the school. In "Alternative Schools: Today and Tomorrow," Robert Barr addresses the issue of alternative education and presents an overview of some on-going programs. Shirley McCune, in "Achieving Sex Equity in Career Education," emphasizes the need for sex equity, the role of sex stereotyping in education, and the lack of responsiveness and effort in teacher education institutions toward the problem. Topics of the nine clinics are as follows: the role of the college administrator in career education, cooperative education, evaluating career education components in teacher education programs, sex role stereotyping guidelines for teacher educators, learning centers for career choice, faculty internships sponsored by the Kellogg Foundations, Career Activity Packages Self-Utilized Learning Experiences (CAPSULE), a new approach to course development, and a description of Oregon career education for preservice teachers.
