Our Future Selves: A Research Plan Toward Understanding Aging. Report of the Panel on Behavioral and Social Sciences Research.
Neugarten, Bernice L.; Maddox, George L.
This report calls attention to those areas of research on aging in the behavioral and social sciences that have promise for both short-run and long-term. It looks at the societal context for aging, at processes of aging in the individual, and, finally, at the older person in the context of various social institutions. The societal context examines changing demographic and social characteristics, age, and organization of society and sociocultural context. The second section on aging is concerned with the biological as well as psychological processes of aging--issues requiring expanded research efforts if future social policies are to be well conceived.
