Statistical data on seven Israeli universities for 1977-78 are presented in this annual statistical abstract compiled by the Planning and Grants Committee of the Council for Higher Education. Data on students are tabulated according to academic institution, level of degree, field of study, age, sex, and continent of birth. Enrollments and candidates for first-year studies are presented by institution, sex and preferred field of study. Information concerning degree recipients is tabulated by level of degree, year, growth rates, and indexes, institution, and field of study. Budget information by academic year and institution is provided, including: national expenditures, ordinary budgets of institutions, development budgets of institutions, and government participation in development budgets. Physical data for academic institutions are tabulated according to use, period of construction, and institution. Enrollment forecast data for 1976/77-1991/92 based on graduates of matriculation exams in 1970/71 are also tabulated. A description of each variable is provided and data sources are explained. A description of the Students Loan Fund, which provides student loans at low interest rates, is also included. (SF)
