Star Power: Providing for the Gifted & Talented. Workshop Leader's Resource Guide for Star Power Module 1-10.
Priem, Thomas E.
Presented is the workshop leader's resource guide for Star Power Modules 1-10, a series of modules developed for school personnel who have an interest in or a need to explore the area of gifted and talented education. The 10 program modules include the following: characteristics of the gifted/talented, needs of the gifted/talented, application of theories of intelligence to the gifted/talented, application of theories of creativity to the gifted/talented, enrichment activities for the gifted/talented, underachievers among the gifted/talented, gifted and talented students among the disabled, gifted and talented students among other educationally disadvantaged groups, programs for the gifted/talented, and guidance counseling for the gifted/talented. An introduction explains how to use the modules for either independent study for small group interaction, or in inservice programs. Sections for each of the 10 modules include an introduction to the module; the goals of the module (or part of the module); a list of objectives; and a list or a chart which identifies activities, lists required materials, and describes the activities. Among goals addressed are the following: to understand the limitation of IQ and achievement tests as measures of giftedness and to discover other means of identification, to understand different theories of intelligence as they relate to activities for the gifted/talented, and to understand the academic problems encountered by the gifted/talented and to discover ways to help these students solve them.
