A Catalog of Basic Elements of College-Level Instruction. EAC Reports 79-18.
Gillmore, Gerald M.; Hofland, Dean M.
Designed to assist academic units in specifying quality instruction, the catalog is composed of elements of instruction, organized into four major categories: instructional plan, delivery. evaluation, and student outcomes. The instructional plan is sub-categorized into the following areas: content, objectives, materials, assignments, and strategies. The delivery category is divided into presentation, affective characteristics, and interaction. The evaluation dimension explores both student performance and instructional effectiveness. Student outcomes refers to changes in students as a result of instruction and is sub-categorized into intellectual, non-intellectual, and physical skill areas. For each of the elements within a sub-category a definition and examples of desirable and undesirable behavior or performance are provided. An overview of the catalog, suggestions for potential use, and six areas of the catalog in need of further development are provided. (PHR)
