One. Responsive Supervision for Professional Development: Overview of the Process.
Rayder, Nicholas; Taylor, Trent
Written for classroom teachers, the manual describes a model for analyzing interaction between teachers and mainstreamed special education students. The introduction stresses that the model's observation approach emphasizes professional growth rather than institutional regulation. Seven steps of the model are discussed: determining teacher goals, selecting area and setting criteria for observation, conducting the classroom observation, preparing for the feedback session, giving responsive feedback to the teacher, determining a plan for development, and implementing the plan. Important aspects of feedback are considered, and resources for identifying different teaching strategies in the development of a plan are described. A sample observation analysis is appended. (CL)
