Intended to provide an annual overview and synthesis of developments in the evolution of the science of communication, this volume is the third in a series of publications that began in 1977. The volume contains disciplinary reviews and commentaries on topics of general interest to scholars and reseachers in all subdivisions of communication studies; overviews of general and specific developments of selected subdivisions of communication theory and research; and current research reports in a variety of specialized areas representing the scholarly concerns of each subdivision within communication science. Specific areas covered in the 38 selections include information systems, interpersonal communication, mass communication, organizational communication, intercultural communication, political communication, instructional communication, and health communication. A section containing biographical information about the authors and a topic and author index are provided. (FL)
