Building Self-Help Groups Among Older Persons; A Training Curriculum to Prepare Organizers.
Dory, Frances Jemmott; Briggs, H. Carson
This curriculum guide is designed to assist anyone involved in the organization of self-help mutual aid groups among older persons, based on the assumption that those to be affected must be involved. There are four major sections in the guide which speak to background issues; training of organizers in terms of their roles and functions; four crucial areas of development of self-help mutual aid including health and mental health, safety, consumer education, and aid for the homebound; and supplemental resources of training ideas and techniques. Each of the training designs is organized according to its purpose, objectives, techniques, materials, expected outcomes, trainers, and resources. Suggestions for content format and training techniques are also provided. (Author/HLM)
