Proceedings are presented of an Illinois Pre-Employment and Placement Conference which had three goals: to encourage policy-level planning by administration to support programs of placement and pre-employment, to develop staff competencies in the wide range of activities required by staff responsible for placement and pre-employment, and to assure continued exchange of new techniques and ideas among those involved in comprehensive placement services. Abstracts of thiry-five presentations given at the conference are presented. Among the topics presented were (1) Pre-Employment and Placement: A Multi-Faceted Partnership; (2) Career Placement: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow; (3) Affording Prospective Employees Equal Opportunities in Hiring and Placement; (4) Employer's Views of Using the Postsecondary Placement Office; (5) Illinois Apprenticeship Handbook; (6) Job Development Through Community Resources; (7) Organizing a Statewide Job Placement System; (8) Reaching and Motivating Economically Disadvantaged Students; (9) Career Guidance Centers and How to Use Them; (10) College Placement Operation Costs and Strategies; (11) Effective Use of Advisory Committees; (12) How to Set up a First-Year Placement Program; (13) Placing Handicapped Students; (14) A New Leadership Role for Vocational Education; (15) Obtaining and Using Student Followup Information; and (16) Special Placement Problems of the Community College.
