Whatcha Gonna Be When You Grow Up?: A Guide for the Older Woman Who Wants to Go to College.
Ryan, Monnie
This illustrated handbook provides advice and answers prospective questions for women who are considering a return to higher education. Based upon the author's own experiences, it begins by focusing on some of the reasons for returning to school. Next, various concerns and anxieties that a woman might face in going to college--self-doubt, fears of being an outsider and being unable to compete with younger students, feelings of neglecting the family and one's responsibilities, and lack of definite goals--are considered supportively and reassuringly. Questions related to admission tests, credit for prior learning, choosing a school, costs and financial aid, admissions procedures, choosing courses, support services, and campus activities are examined. The booklet concludes with a glossary of educational terms and phrases. (DR)
