Over 100 objectives, each accompanied by a related evaluation item, dealing with elementary school life sciences, are presented. The objectives are organized into the following categories: individual organism; population; environment; community; and ecosystem. Objectives are based on an examination of leading curriculum materials in the life sciences. Objectives covering the scientific method, such as data collection, measurement, hypothesis formation, and inference making, are not included. Each sample includes statement of the objective, one or more test items, and answers or criteria for judging the adequacy of student responses. Most of the items are presented in pictorial format.
