Integrating Sciences and Humanities. The Forum for Liberal Education.
Mohrman, Kathryn, Ed.; And Others
Eight programs are described that are representative of the variety of approaches to the problem of integrating the sciences and humanities. The reason why integration of science, humanities, and the social sciences is important in the undergraduate learning experience is addressed in an essay by George W. Hazzard entitled, "Knowledge Integration in Undergraduate Liberal Learning." The following eight program descriptions are presented: interdisciplinary holistic teaching/learning program at the Claremont Colleges; science of man program at Marist College; environmental studies program at New College; humanities perspectives on technology program at Lehigh University; liberal arts humanities program at Quinnipiac College; interdisciplinary studies program in letters and sciences at Saddleback Community College; interdisciplinary core curriculum program at Lakeland College; and the NEXA program at San Francisco State University. Additional programs at other institutions and resource materials on the topic are listed. (SW)
