Student Expenses at Postsecondary Institutions, 1979-80.
Case, Joe Paul; Jacobson, Edmund C.
Information is presented about the costs of pursuing education beyond high school at different institutions. An introductory section analyzes student-expense data on a nationwide basis. Student expenses are listed for approximately 2,930 postsecondary institutions. Analyses are provided for four different budget types: budgets for dependent resident students living on and off the campus, a budget for dependent commuting students, and one for self-supporting students. These budgets for the four different student categories represent average costs, and any individual student at an institution may have expenses that vary from these. A student expense budget is an all-inclusive summary of both direct educational and living expenses. The expense budget for the typical student at a postsecondary institution is made up of five principal parts: tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, personal expenses, and transportation. Tables provide data showing how postsecondary education expenses are changing and how expenses vary by College Board region. (SW)
