The Elementary School Principalship in 1978: A Research Study.

This report presents the findings of a 1978 survey of 1,688 elementary school principals. The report summarizes elementary principals' characteristics, experience, professional activities, salaries, and benefits. The characteristics of principals' schools and staffs and principals' relationships with both are discussed. The survey also looked at the principal's role within the school system and responsibilities for collective bargaining. Finally, the study uncovered the principal's problems and opinions and made predictions about the future of the principalship. (Author/JM)
