The purpose of this guide is to help educators consider the community as an integral part of the total educational program. The document is divided into two major parts. Part one contains a guide for the use of community resources. These uses are categorized into the following five areas: (1) developing resource linkages; (2) the school as a community; (3) the community as a school; (4) communicating across linkages; and (5) personnel development. Part two contains a bibliography of different types of enterprises from which educational materials are available. These enterprises are categorized by the following occupational clusters: agriculture/forestry; construction; finance/insurance; government/public service; health/learning; manufacturing/mining; personal service/entertainment; transportation; wholesale/retail; and other (for those resources not classified by the previous categories). These enterprises make up the employment opportunities in Indiana communities. In most cases, the types of resources available are printed materials which emphasize the nature and opportunities of specific jobs or groups of jobs. An alphabetical index by occupation is appended.
