An ongoing series of experiments has extended Rose's information processing approach to job performance assessment. Each study investigated cognitive tasks from the literature on memory, psycholinquistics, and visual information processing, for potential inclusion in the test battery. Each task was then evaluated against three criterion areas: (1) replicability of previous findings; (2) ease of administration and scoring, equipment demands, and reliability; and (3) construct validity, and theoretical interpretations of individual and group performance. Fourteen of the 22 tasks investigated were selected for the battery because they met the above criteria. Unresolved issues having implications for future research were identified; those related to the test battery as an assessment instrument included equipment demands, time considerations, and testing procedures. Issues related to the test battery as a research instrument centered around construct validity. (CP)
