Independent Learning and Low Socio-Economic Classrooms: Problems of Program Implementation and Assessment.
Calcagno, Susan C.; Trinchero, Robert L.
This report is a summary and review of a study on the effects of introducing an independent learning system in low socioeconomic (SES) schools. The report is organized into five sections. The first provides background information on the independent learning system, the research design and student variables of interest. The second section describes the low-SES sample characteristics and student attrition rates. Implementation of the independent learning system in low-SES classes is described in the third section, and results of the research study for low-SES students in the fourth section. A discussion of problems encountered in the study of independent learning in low-SES schools is presented in the summary. (Authors)
