This guide gives specific guidelines for a five-step system to install effectively an individualized mathematics program. These steps are: (1) use of a planning model described; (2) organization of resources available; (3) installation of an environment in which individualization is possible; (4) use of diagnostic and prescriptive teaching; and (5) installation of student-directed teaching and learning strategies including all aspects of learner decision-making.
