K-12 Guide for Integrating Career Education with Local Curriculum. Bulletin No. 9535.
Wisconsin State Dept. of Public Instruction, Madison.
This K-12 curriculum guide is designed to assist local school districts in facilitating individual career development and achievement. The first of five parts provides a rationale for career education, suggestions on how to get teachers involved, and suggestions concerning appropriate personnel to be included in local career education curriculum workshops. The second part provides several models to help clarify the interaction of the self and the world of work; the self involved in career exploration, planning, and preparation; and how this interaction, together with informed decision-making, results in a meaningful life and emerging career. It includes a listing of twenty-two concepts, together with a scope-and-sequence model suggesting appropriate grade groupings for introducing, developing, and emphasizing each concept. The third part discusses various local approaches for integrating career education with existing curriculum, and the fourth lists over 350 objectives, stated as learner outcomes, related to the twenty-two concepts. The fifth section provides a few examples of how local staffs can add their own ideas for activities, resources, and evaluation to the concepts and learner outcomes in the state guide. (CT)
