Renewing Urban Schools.
Schmuck, Richard, Ed.; And Others
The articles in this report describe efforts at using varieties of process consultation to stimulate renewal in urban schools. Process consultation is a strategy for improving the group and intergroup procedures used by school personnel to reach their educational objectives and to solve their own problems. Emphasis is on the ways teachers, administrators, educational specialists, and/or expert consultants can collaborate in assisting urban school participants to build effective processes of self diagnosis, systematic planning and collaborative problem solving, and deliberate action. It is argued that schools function best when teachers, administrators and students are participating to solve the school's problems. It is also pointed out that planned efforts at facilitating the processes of urban renewal can lead to improvements in the school's instructional programs. (Author/EB)
