Specialized Vocational Services for the Individual with Epilepsy.
Fraser, Robert T.; And Others
A specialized vocational program served 108 epileptic individuals who participated in the program during the first 18 months of its operation. The following are some of the aspects of the program: utilization of the neuropsychological data in rehabilitation planning, brief work adjustment, a job station program, training in job seeking skills, social skills training, on-the-job training, a job finding club, placement services, and followup programs. Among conclusions are that seizures do not appear to be the major barrier to employment maintenance, rather it is "epilepsy associated" problems (psychosocial difficulties and performance problems) which cause loss of employment; and the need to establish satellite vocational units to more effectively reach and work with epileptics.
