Programs and Activities in Education in City Bureaus.
Cohen, Marty
This report describes the relationships and programs the city of Portland, Oregon, maintains with its public schools and with some private schools, colleges, and universities. The document grew from a survey conducted within the city government in June 1978 and from subsequent studies concerning school boundaries, enrollments, public service employment, and the like. The studies indicated that the health of the city's neighborhoods is directly related to the health of the public schools. Over 100 city-school programs are noted, covering the bureaus of parks, police, streets, fire, and 30 other city bureaus. In many cases the programs show the efficient use of public funds through cooperative ventures in support of neighborhoods and schools. This report is intended as a background for understanding the city-school policy. (Author/LD)
