Just for Fun: Alcohol and the College Student.
Iutcovich, Joyce; Iutcovich, Mark
The extent of drinking among college students (N=800) was investigated, to compare the consumption of various groups in terms of such variables as: age, sex, religious preference, class standing, type of living accommodation and type of college (i.e., religious vs. secular and co-ed vs. all female). Various life styles and their relationship to drinking behavior were examined, including: (1) the students' perceptions of how much other groups drink; (2) the extent of peer or adult influence on their own drinking behvaior; and (3) the thoughts that students have about their own drinking behavior. Results indicated that life styles, the aspect of sociability, and peer influence accentuate already learned behavior as well as encourage new behavior to be acquired within the college environment.
