Global Perspectives: Some Questions and Answers.
Center for Global Perspectives, New York, NY.
To enlighten the reader on the status, objectives, and needs of global education, this paper poses and answers questions related to global perspectives. A global perspective is interpreted to include heightened awareness and understanding of the global system as well as increased consciousness of the intimate relationship of self, humankind, and the biosphere. The document, arranged in 13 sections, presents examples of global perspectives. Two sections examine the relationship of global perspectives to global citizenship and explore the role of the school in teaching global perspectives. Other sections focus on developing global curriculum, financing programs, measuring student progress, incorporating global perspectives into science and language arts programs, and providing global education resources. Information is included on the importance and practicality of global perspectives education in precollegiate education, ways to encourage a global outlook without fostering political integration, contributions of tourism and international sport competitions to a global outlook, developing lesson plans with a global perspective, incorporating global content into reading lessons, and encouraging teacher involvement in global issues.
