Based on a national followup survey of college freshmen conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute, the University of California (UC) respondents were singled out for examination. In the spring of 1977, the national survey was sent to freshmen who had entered college in the fall of 1970. The UC sample of 4,240 freshmen attended either the University of California at Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Barbara, or the Santa Cruz campus. Information is presented on the respondents' job status, job satisfaction, vocational motivation, job benefits, intellectual-cultural benefits of college, personal development benefits of college relationships among educational benefits, and nongraduates and non-UC graduates. Among the findings are that of the 1,080 UC freshmen who replied to the questionnaire, nearly nine-tenths had earned a bachelor's degree, and about 60 percent of the graduates went on to graduate and professional school. About 60 percent of the respondents were attending school at the time they filled out the questionnaire, nearly seven years after their entrance as freshmen.
