A Guide for Inexperienced Project Directors of Federally Funded Education Projects.

Outlined in this paper are the following: (1) Federal guidelines, regulations, and approvals regarding the awarding of funds to a local educational agency in response to a grant application; (2) the role of the director in defining the scope and position of the project within the parent institution; (3) suggestions for developing a management style; (4) recommendations for delineating and analyzing policies and procedures; (5) the advantages of linkages/interfaces with allied agencies and institutions; (6) criteria and considerations in program evaluation, validation and reporting; and (7) responsibilities of the project director in assuring the continuation of a particular project. References are made to specific literature which would be helpful to an inexperienced project director. A list of general references is also included. Aspects of different administrative styles and a listing of "do's and don'ts" of project administration are appended. (EB)
