An Interdisciplinary Educational Model to Promote Family Development and Individual Growth: Teachers and Social Workers Learn Together.
Elliott, Sharon L.; And Others
This report describes a five-year interdisciplinary training program in education and social service for the children, parents and university students at the Wayne State University College of Education Laboratory Nursery School and details the impact of the training model on six representative families enrolled in the nursery school. The basic components of the training program are: primary emphasis on total family approach, intensive family involvement at all levels of the program, and parent education. Chapter One outlines the structure of education and social work personnel participation in the training program. Chapter Two indicates the range and kinds of interventions program workers made in six severe but representative cases. Chapter Three briefly assesses the program. Implications of the program for creating a new professional (human service educator) who assumes responsibility for the total family, are discussed. (Author/RH)
