Supporting Home-Based Career Education at the Preschool Level. Final Report. July 1, 1976 to September 30, 1977.
Olympus Research Centers, San Francisco, CA.
Olympus Research Centers, in a joint effort with the Salt Lake City School District, designed and produced a package of material to extend the benefits of career education to preschool children in the home. The materials were to serve as resource tools and discussion vehicles for parent training groups. The guiding concept was that parents should be trained to provide positive career education support experiences to their children in the home. The materials produced were a book, "Your Child's Career"; a film; six filmstrips and audio cassettes; and a parent-teacher guidebook. The materials were developed by a group of qualified professionals in consultation with an advisory board made up of school administrators, teachers, and parents. The group included representatives of all ethnic groups in the Salt Lake City area, handicapped and non-handicapped individuals, and an approximately equal ratio of males and females. After the materials were developed, two pilot parent training groups were organized, and the materials were evaluated by those groups. The evaluation included pre- and posttests, tape recordings of the sessions, and personal interviews with participants following completion of the training program. In general, the evaluations can be best described as "positive." Suggestions offered by the parent training groups were incorporated into the materials before final production. (Author/CT)
