Curricular recommendations for educators in health care institutions formulated at an invitational conference are presented. Beginning the document are summaries of the lectures presented in the general session of the conference. Topics covered are reflected in the following titles: The Administrator's View of the Director of Education; Director's View of the Education Staff; The Scope of Education in the Hospital; Findings of a Functional Job Analysis; and Findings of the Hospitalwide Education and Training Project; and Guidelines on Developing a Curriculum. Next, three sets of curricular recommendations formulated during the conference are presented. The three sets are for a preservice nondegree program, an inservice nondegree program, and a degree program. Each set includes competency statements delineating the knowledge and skills that the student should have upon completion of the educational program. Concluding the document is a summary of the common concerns expressed by conference participants and a list of recommendations. Contained in the appendixes are a glossary of terms used in the conference, the full report of the functional job analysis, and the task analysis questionnaire that was used to obtain the data. (JH)
