Recorded in this booklet are presentations from two symposia entitled "Training Faculty in Aging I and II," sponsored by the Institute of Gerontology, University of the District of Columbia, which were designed to sensitize and educate faculty in colleges and universities on gerontological problems and issues. The first symposium recorded is of a conversation among black gerontologists dealing with major problems faced by the black elderly. Entitled "The Black Elderly: Toward a Better Understanding," this presentation deals with such areas as income, available services, transportation problems, family involvement, psychological attitudes, medical problems, and participation among the black elderly. Suggestions are made for improving the situation of the black elderly. The second symposium entitled "Issues Related to Working with the Minority Elderly" includes the following topics: (1) working with the elderly Asian; (2) major concerns of the elderly Native American; (3) the Spanish-speaking elderly; and (4) a collection of concepts and ideas concerning the black elderly. Various issues and suggestions for dealing with the problems faced by each of the respective elderly minorities are discussed in the presentations. (Author/EB)
