This text is designed to help elementary and secondary school teachers (and students) deal with value-related issues in health education and to apply theories of value clarification to instruction in health education. The authors examine: (1) evidence of an existing need for values clarification in health education; (2) a summary of values clarification theory; (3) the benefit of a values clarification/health education collaboration; (4) values clarification activities in human sexuality, drug education, and nutrition education; (5) writing activities in human sexuality, drug, and nutrition education; (6) methods of "stepping back" and objectively considering instructional plans and processes; (7) two examples of values clarification exercises; (8) humanistic approaches to values clarification; and (9) techniques for implementing suggestions contained in the book. Appendices include terminology, references, examples of values clarification readings, film materials, tape and cassette materials, books on values clarification, and additional readings. (MJB)
