Philosophical Studies in Education: Proceedings of the 1977 Annual Meeting of the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society.
Brownson, William E., Ed.; Carter, John, Ed.
The proceedings consist of the presidential address, papers, responses, and dialogue presented at the annual meeting of the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society. Papers emphasized three themes: (1) tasks of philosophical and empirical inquiry in education, (2) moral and values education, and (3) educational policy. In the presidential address, Gordon Chamberlin of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary proposed that philosophers of education move from a narrow view of their roles identified with schooling to consideration for the larger education arena. Other papers focused on characteristics of a good teacher, historical developments in American education, the place of therapy in education, mental health, social relations in schools, the relationship between economics and educational structures, consequences of indoctrinational activities, and the relationship between social philosophy and educational practice.
