This paper describes and evaluates two courses comprising a senior seminar designed as the culmination of a women's studies curriculum. Interdisciplinary in nature and team-taught, the seminar included studies from the fields of literature, psychology, and anthropology. The theme of the Winter 1977 course was "Women, Culture, and Power." Lectures included an analysis of the process by which theories are constructed in science and the social sciences, Jungian psychology, and biases and problems in the behavioral and social sciences. Readings were critical and theoretical in nature (i.e., Rosaldo and Lamphere, "Women, Culture and Society"). During the second course, students executed individual projects and met weekly to discuss Simone deBeauvoir's "The Second Sex." The final three weeks were devoted to oral presentations. The summary of student evaluations includes background information on students and describes the aspects of courses and instruction on which the students commented. The summary and evaluation reveal that during the first course students were confused, critical, and even hostile toward the readings, instructors, and lectures. However, the evaluation of the second course by students was much better because of its direct application to student goals. Recommendations, based on identified problems and evaluations, for designing and conducting similar seminars are given. The appendices, which form the bulk of the document, include a copy of the grant proposal for developing the course, syllabi and handouts, abstracts of student projects, student profiles, and evaluations.
