This manual for parents and child care personnel in day care homes and centers provides guidelines and information on indoor and outdoor safety precautions, emergency preparation and first aid. Contents focus on monitoring arrivals and departures, prevention of suffocation and strangulation, control of pets and other animals, preventing and treating insect, snake and other animal bites and scratches, preventing and treating poisoning from household chemical products, fumes, cosmetics, pesticides, petroleum products, drugs, house and outdoor plans, food, and lead. Attention is also given to water safety in tubs, wading and swimming pools, prevention of automobile injury and prevention of fires, burns and electric shock. The concluding section emphasizes the need for emergency plans for response to fire and severe weather conditions, administration of first aid and obtaining emergency medical assistance.
