This collection of 15 articles on teaching and learning by community college faculty explores the following topics: (1) using modern treatments of standard literary themes and texts to enhance "relevance"; (2) coordination of a course based on Jacob Bronowski's "The Ascent of Man"; (3) planning a "Library Awareness Day"; (4) use of a management development program to establish a sense of community often lacking at the large "commuter" school; (5) panning for gold as an exercise to teach sedimentation to students of introductory geology; (6) an actor's approach to the study of plays; (7) maintaining standards in travel/study courses with emphasis on courses that take place in limited time periods; (8) a thematic approach to the teaching of western civilization; (9) experience-based instruction in archaeology courses; (10) an argument in favor of focusing on creativity in art appreciation courses; (11) use of audio-tape descriptions to assist students in choosing a community field work placement in mental health programs; (12) structuring history instruction to promote understanding of past, present, and future; (13) teaching literature to non-literary students; (14) an interdisciplinary approach to teaching the skills and procedures of the library research paper; and (15) a model for student government at the community college.
