Latin Education: Adapting the Textbook #1a. Materials Designed for Classroom Use and as Models for Latin Teachers.
Strasheim, Lorraine A.
Some general planning information for Latin language courses includes tips on (1) coverage in the textbook; (2) supplementing the textbook; and (3) combined or multi-level classes, which includes independent study, special interest courses, rotating levels and split-period approaches. Some specific considerations are given for the text "First Year Latin," by Jenney, Scudder, and Baade. The teaching materials included in this guide are designed to offer help to the classroom Latin teacher by: (1) making a series of suggestions for each chapter to provide some options to be considered by the teacher in planning for instruction; (2) providing some ready-made materials for the Latin teacher who has multiple daily preparations; and (3) presenting teachers with some ideas that may get their own ideas flowing. These learning aids are intended to be used as overhead transparencies and can either be traced onto acetate or can be sent through a photocopy process to make permanent transparencies. (NCR)
